NATO Commander

Developed by Sid Meier in 1983, players are entrenched in a Cold War scenario in which the Soviet Union invades Germany. In charge of the NATO ground forces, players must choose where to place their resources and what their role will be.

Overview

NATO Commander is a strategy wargame developed by MicroProse Software and published by both MicroProse Software (US releases) and U.S. Gold (UK releases) for Apple II, Commodore 64, and Atari 8-Bit.

Gameplay

As the game progresses, operational and political factors influence the outcome of the war. Players are given the ability to use either chemical warfare or nuclear weapons but these will have dire consequences on reputation and how other countries interact with the player. The end game involves either the player or the Soviet Union surrendering and a score is calculated depending on the forces remaining.
