Overview
Late Shift is a full-motion video crime-thriller adventure game developed by CtrlMovie and published digitally by Wales Interactive for the PC, Mac, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 on April 18, 2017. It was also released by CtrlMovie for iOS devices (including the Apple TV) on April 21, 2017 and was originally shown in special "interactive screenings" (where the audience can participate with apps for iOS and Android devices) at film festivals between March 9, 2016 and November 17, 2016.
An interactive movie and a proof-of-concept for the developer's CtrlMovie platform, Late Shift allows players to make time-limited key decisions at numerous points in the film (similar to Telltale's adventure games since The Walking Dead), which allows them to directly influence how the story progresses. Although each playthrough is roughly the length of a hour-long feature film, it has numerous alternate scenes and seven unique endings.
The story, written by the screenwriter behind the 2009 film Sherlock Holmes, tells the tale of Matt Thompson: a university student in modern-day London working as a late-night car park attendant. When he is forcefully dragged into a robbery of an ancient Chinese relic, he ends up having to pick up the pieces and prove his innocence.
